Description

    Overview

For Creative Portraits and Low Light Photography.
The EF 50mm f/1.8 STM excels at portraiture, low-light photography, and adding an artistic edge to everyday objects and settings, thanks to its wide f/1.8 maximum aperture and 50mm focal length.

    Key Features

    Wide f/1.8 Aperture
It’s easy to capture superb portraits, or bold, artistic photos and movies with the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM – the wide f/1.8 maximum aperture provides precise control over depth of field. This means you can achive blurry, soft backgrounds, with sharp foregrounds.

    Stepping Motor Technology (STM)
The EF 50MM f/1.8 STM features stepping motor technology which delivers fast, smooth, and near silent autofocus capability. This is particularly beneficial when shooting movies or shooting in live view mode.

    Compact, Lightweight, Affordable
The EF 50MM f/1.8 STM has a compact and lightweight design, weighing a mere 160g, and easily slips into your bag adding very little to the overall weight of your kit. The lens’s new design compliments both Canon’s spectrum of EOS DSLRs, while the new metal mount provides a more robust connection to camera bodies.

    Perfect Prime
As a prime lens, the fixed 50mm focal length provides high quality results, with enhanced visible sharpness and contrast. When paired with an APS-C EOS DSLR, the lens is ideal for portraiture, helping you capture the perfect head and shoulder composition. It’s also a useful every day ‘standard’ lens for full frame DSLRs and is great at shooting a diverse range of subjects with a natural viewpoint and perspective.

    Low Light Capabilities
The f/1.8 aperture lets more light into the lens, so you can comfortably shoot in darker conditions, allowing you to shoot candid handheld shots without the use of a tripod.

    Image Quality
Providing enhanced image quality, this lens features Canon’s Super Spectra Coating, which minimises internal reflections, as well as ghosting and flare. The lens also provides a minimum focusing distance of just 0.35m, allowing you to get even closer to subjects and achieve a greater level of magnification, while the 7-blade aperture delivers beautiful blur and out of focus highlights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Lens This lens is perfect for those looking to take great quality photographs on a budget. Canon offers 3 options for a 50mm prime lens. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 is the entry level model and as such can feel a bit plastic and cheap. However, the quality of the photographs which you can capture using this lens far exceeds what you might expect given the price. The advantage of this is that you get a very light and affordable fixed zoom lens which allows you to take photographs like a pro. *keep in mind this is an EF lens, using a crop sensor DSLR (Canon 7D, 60D, 70D, 77D, 80D, 700D, 750D, 760D, 1300D) will result in a true focal length of 80mm which can be on the long side. To achieve 50mm with this lens you would need a full frame camera like a Canon 5D or 6D.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Step Up Lens I bought this lens to step up from the kit 18-55mm canon lens. It has exceptional sharpness and excellent low light performance because of its low f-stop of f2.8. would recommend for people who are looking for a professional quality lens on a budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality on a budget This may sound stingy, but this is the cheapest lens you can buy for a Canon DLSR. So it makes it an affordable gift for any photographer. I bought this lens nearly 6 months ago because my partner kept stealing my 50mm prime for her professional product photography. For those who still use the kit lenses regularly, you REALLY should get this 50mm F1.8 STM lens. The sharpness is substantially better than almost any kit lens, and the ability to shoot in low light, or high subject speeds, or with nice blurred backgrounds (all the benefits of a fast lens with a low F rating) cannot be overstated. Using this lens is a dream, and with a little practice, you can see the benefits of a cheap, fast, sharp prime. (Just don't shoot faces too close, or you'll make their noses look huge). I'd encourage any photographer with a Canon DSLR to buy this lens, if for nothing more than portraits, product photography, or as a sharp backup lens. Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Canon ‘nifty fifty’ lens I bought this lens after reading such positive reviews. It is a very high performing lens for such a low price. I’m very satisfied with my purchase!
