Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great lens for portraiture! I bought this lens about a month and a half ago and I'm so happy that I did! I went for the cheapest, bottom of the line 50mm lens, and what I got was great! I have this lens paired with my Nikon D3400 DSLR, and it shoots amazing quality images! As I opted for the cheaper lens, it only shoots in Manual mode. This meant that I had to learn the functions, and it was a great learning opportunity! I would love to have more functional options to pair with my camera, but you get what you pay for. As a beginner photographer, this lens was a great intro into portrait photography!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Underrated lens I've owned this lens for a couple of years now. It's a real gem - you'll need to learn to focus manually, and I find that shooting in aperture mode (letting the camera calculate shutter speed) often works best. If you couple this lens with some very inexpensive extension tubes, you'll have yourself a usable setup for shooting some amazing macro shots - however that will require full manual exposure, since the camera won't be able to talk to the lens. I find that f2.8 is usually the widest this lens can go and still maintain sharp focus without chromatic aberrations - f1.8 is still of use, but not for every scene. Keep in mind - the way Nikon have their sensors set up in models like the D3xxx series, this 50mm lens actually has a focal length closer to 75mm on the DX sensors found in those cameras. I use it with a D3200, and while the shots are tight, the detail and contrasts captured by this lens make it a minor issue given its price point.
