Spoof movie favourite Leslie Nielsen (The Naked Gun, Airplane!) takes espionage less than seriously in this outrageously funny parody of the spy world! Secret agent WD-40 (Nielsen) is assigned to foil the evil plan of his arch enemy General Rancor - a tyrannical madman who lost two limbs in an explosion and is now unarmed and dangerous! WD-40's mission - should he choose to accept it - is to save the world from destruction, rescue the daughter of his former partner and, of course, do some 'undercover' work with a sexy fellow agent (Nicollette Sheridan). Spoofing such box-office hits as Pulp Fiction, Speed and True Lies, Spy Hard is everything a spy thriller isn't - and much more!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Neilsen tries hard, but.... "Spy Hard" is Leslie Neilsen's ("The Naked Gun") attempt to parody and spoof the spy and action films of the 1980s and 1990s. Parodies of "Die Hard", "Speed", "James Bond", "GoldenEye", "Pulp Fiction", "Sister Act" and "True Lies" are all here. But this is very much a lame duck effort; with everyone trying too hard. You can see the "jokes" coming a mile away, and the resultant film is neither funny or dramatic. Also stars Nicolette Sheridan ("Desperate Housewives") with a wicked Russian accent. Sheridan tries hard as well. Sadly the film is so bad, it cannot be recommended.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tired yet adequate humour This comedy spoof has an equal share of hits and misses in terms of the joke ratio, but when the jokes miss, you really feel it and it's a bit depressing. This movie could be called 'Naked Gun 4' because Leslie Nielson returns as effectively the same character as Lt Frank Drebin, though unfortunately the conception of his character this time, Agent Dick Steele, WD-40, isn't as well-realised. Sure, he's a doofus, but he's not stupid enough, the focus of the jokes isn't on him, but rather spoofing other popular movies as well as giving screen-time to less interesting characters. It's not just the bad comedic timing that almost sinks the movie - it's the fact that the story barely holds any of it together. The story concerns General Rancor hoping to destroy the world or something. Dick Steele is lured back from retirement for the mission: to stop Rancor launching a killer satellite. The rest of the details are forgettable, as are most of the jokes. They make you chuckle, but I wouldn't say they're delightfully funny. What do you expect from writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer? This pair are not great talents, though I felt their 'Meet the Spartans' and 'Vampires Suck' movies were fairly good. Their humour is a bit obvious. This time around, Leslie Nielson really needed to be a moron instead of just telling jokes. In terms of the jokey movie references, they all fall flat (GoldenEye, True Lies, Sister Act, Speed, Pulp Fiction etc).
