1970s Australia: A 200-ton blue whale washes up on a local beach and the kids think it's the biggest thing that's ever happened in their lives. Behind closed doors, the Mums and Dads of this quiet suburban cul-de-sac celebrate in their own special way, by joining the sexual revolution. It’s a time of boxed wine, bad hair, bad styles, bad choices, but good times. And like the rotting whale, it's all about to go spectacularly wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A safari back to the 70's Just watched this tonight, and I was tempted to freeze-frame so much, because each scene was like a trip down memory lane. All the iconic ephemera from my childhood was there, the set dressers did a tremendous job. I loved all the well-chosen music, particularly Kylie's cover of "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep". Clothing-wise, the wardrobe department excelled themselves, everything looked totally period. All the cast did a great job, which I think is helped by the fact that the main adult cast are mostly about my age, and hopefully remember the events of the mid 70's as well and as fondly as I do. As for the story - I thought the production team captured the spirit of the 70's Australian suburban life exactly, down to the smallest detail, and it was such a joy to watch, and I had tears rolling down my cheeks during the Cracker Night sequence, out of sadness for the loss of it, and also from the humour infused into it and all the other scenes. This is one Blu-ray that I will be watching often, and I would recommend it highly to anyone who was a child in the 70's, and to all others so they can see what happened to us in the 70's, and how we survived it.
