A Vivid Portrait of the Era and the Songs That Embodied it.

In 1984, Midnight Oil released their iconic record Red Sails in the Sunset. They embarked on a relentless tour around the nation performing raw and electrifying music that reignited the imagination of young Australians. That same year, their lead singer Peter Garrett committed to run for a Senate seat for the Nuclear Disarmament Party.

With the mounting pressure of balancing the demands of music and politics this is the year that would make, but nearly break, Australia's most important rock and roll band. Thirty years in the making and featuring never seen before seen footage of the band on and off the stage, MIDNIGHT OIL 1984 is the untold story of the year Australia's most iconic rock band inspired the nation to believe in the power of music to change the world.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reminder of how good they are Saw this on first release and it was a great show. At the end everyone with me was on a high. This is a great film doco and really enjoyable. Midnight Oil are very much one of the greats in Australian music and this doco shows why. I had forgotten just how good they were and have been playing their albums pretty much non stop since seeing this. The only thing that could have made the viewing better was less emphasis on Peter's attempt to enter politics for the first time. But otherwise it ticks all the boxes for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nostalgic To The Max I also saw this on its' first night of release at the movies, and it totally captures the spirit and heart-pumping adrenalin rush of the Oils from that era. Left the theater feeling so pumped and full of the same feeling I had when I saw them on a number of occasions in the early 80's. Essential viewing for all fans.....especially if you ever had that rush of seeing them live.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Midnight Oil Memories A 'Short Memory' of Australia's greatest live band that I was lucky enough to grow up with throughout the 80's & 90's. If you saw the band live during this time you will love this DVD as it shows the band doing what it does best.
