Description

Historian and archaeologist Neil Oliver is leading a local team of presenters to discover Australia's spectacular coastline.

    Series 1
COAST has arrived in Australia's for its biggest expedition ever. After almost a decade exploring the coastline of Britain and Europe, historian and archaeologist Neil Oliver leads a local team of presenters to discover Australia's spectacular coastline: its people, their history, and its many natural wonders. For COAST Australia's inaugural journey, Neil and the team travel to the Kimberley, Sydney, the Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, the Gold to Sunshine Coast, Victoria, Darwin & Beyond, and the Coral Coast of Western Australia. It's an epic exploration around a vast continent with fascinating stories to unearth.

    Series 2
Neil Oliver heads a team of six expert presenters who travel to eight regions of Australia to highlight glorious coastal areas, revealing the often little-known stories of these spectacular places and meeting their local characters. Series 1 just scratched the surface of a remarkable 60,000 kilometre coastline and left hundreds of stories untold. In this series, Neil visits the Duyfken, a replica 16th century Dutch ship; learns the story behind the construction of Fremantle Harbour; takes to the air on an RAAF mission; and becomes one of only five people known to have set foot on the isolated island of Skull Rock. Also on the itinerary are the Bass Strait, Victoria#s notorious Cheviot Beach, Cockburn Sound, Byron Bay, Gabo Island, Eden and many more intriguing locations.

    Series 3
Neil captures the most interesting stories around the edge of this vast island continent. He's joined by palaeontologist explorer Professor Tim Flannery, marine ecologist Professor Emma Johnston, landscape architect Brendan Moar, historian Dr Alice Garner and marine scientist, Dr Dean Miller.  In this series Neil takes in wild places including the remote Kimberley coast and Lord Howe Island. He discovers the rare naval trick Captain James Cook used to save his ship when it became wrecked on the Great Barrier Reef and he encounters the mighty orca off the coast of Western Australia. Other highlights include a bizarre bubble-gum pink lake on Western Australia's Middle Island, a surprising Cornish heritage in South Australia's 'Copper Triangle' and the albatross on the windswept Bass Strait that are assisting science.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coast Australia - a series Australians should see! I doubt any of us have seen or is aware of the history and features of Australia's vast coastline. It takes Neil Oliver and his expert Team 3 series to do justice to Australia's remarkable coastline covering it's history, indigenous culture, archaeology, marine life and spectacular scenery. Overall - a series well worth seeing.
