Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Endless Wonder Warehouse 13 is a series about government agents attempting to neutralise and retrieve various supernatural artefacts based on historical persons and events. The special effects are somewhat low budget, but the props and sets are generally really well done - Rheticus's Compass in particular was a really nice piece of work, and most of the general use equipment has a steampunk vibe to it. The two 'main' leads, Myka and Pete, were meant to have a kind of logic versus intuition thing going, with Pete being the fun spontaneous one while Myka was the serious voice of reason, but to be frank I found them both pretty immature, lacking in sense and not especially likeable. Fortunately, the show seems to have realised this, as a great many episodes focus more on the rest of the team and supporting cast, who are far and away more interesting people - Artie, the leader, in particular manages to make grouchy likeable, and even the villains have layers. The basic plot of each episode revolved around the team being notified there was an artefact causing shenanigans somewhere, and they then had to go identify it and collect it for safe storage in the titular Warehouse. I use the term safe somewhat sarcastically, as the b plot for each episode usually involved something weird happening in the warehouse itself. The major advantage of this format is it always meant the characters you like were doing something interesting while the other lot could be largely ignored.... Some of the artefacts did really interesting things - there were the usually ones of strength, invisibility, homicidal rage etc. but also some very creative ones such as what happened with the Telegraph from Telegraph Island, the one that managed to fake a zombie apocalypse, and the one that sucked them all into a spanish soap-opera... All in all, despite some cringy moments of hammy acting, ridiculous plots or woeful special effects, it is just good, fairly cheesy, fun, though with a suprising amount of character development as well. Despite being canned a little prematurely, it even manages to end well, with a proper grand finale that wraps up the series. I really enjoyed it, so yes, it is worth checking out.
