Description

In a solo career that spans five decades, internationally-acclaimed Judith Durham (frontwoman of The Seekers) has recorded more than a dozen albums and countless songs.

Released to celebrate Judith's 75th birthday, 'So Much More' is a compilation of beautiful songs that Judith has composed over the years with some extraordinarily talented writers and musicians from Australia and abroad. As always, it is a mix of profound truths, affirmations, and innocent reflections of years gone by all lovingly crafted, and superbly performed.

The album includes a previously unreleased recording from 1967 of Judith performing the title track "So Much More," as well as four songs co-written with Australian singer/songwriter Mark Holden.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A few surprises in store here! The first nine of the fourteen tracks on the album are excellent. The final five are good (Judith Durham doesn't do "bad") but seem a tad daggy compared with the others. Several tracks are what you'd expect from this artist, especially the Seekers'ish "Back Together Again" which was co-written by Seeker Keith Potger and features Potger's guitar work and excellent backing vocals. But the surprise tracks really stand out. For me, the biggest surprise was track three, "The Time Has Come To Part". Co written with Gerry Grabowski, it's about death! But it's definitely not morbid...quite the opposite. It begins gently enough, gradually over it's 5 minutes building in intensity with wailing electric guitar, a strong bass line and a gutsy rhythm section. The vocals absolutely soar...it's a rocker and was so unexpected. Definitely the most contemporary sound from Judith Durham since the Seekers 1990s reunion recording of the Vanda/Young penned "Far Shore". Another highlight is the exquisite ballad "Anchor Of My Life", co written with American songwriter John Durrill (whose songs have been recorded by Sinatra, Midler, Cher, Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, etc. etc). The entire album has been lovingly recorded and is a real credit to producer, Australian 70s singing heart throb Mark Holden. Judith Durham, this 75 year old singer/songwriter, has much that any budding young singer could learn from!
