Inertia is extremely proud to present, "In The Silence" from the wonderfully talented Icelandic artist, Asgeir.

Originally recorded only in Icelandic, Asgeir's debut release, 'Dyrd i daudathogn" in September 2012 broke all records to become Iceland's fastest and biggest selling debut album by a home grown artist, outselling the debuts of superstars Bjork and Sigur Ros combined. Having sold more than 30,000 copies in his home country alone, a staggering one in ten Icelanders now own a copy of this album. Asgeir swept last year's Icelandic Music Awards, picking up four trophies including Best Pop/Rock Album and Best Newcomer.

Growing up in a musical family in Laugarbakki, a tiny hamlet in the wilds of Iceland (Population 40), a passion for singing and music was instilled in Asgeir from a very early age. To keep up with his parents and siblings who were all involved with music in different ways, Asgeir started playing guitar when he was only six and writing his own music at nine. After moving to the city at sixteen and producing a five track demo only four short years later.

A month or two after the runaway success of 'Dyrd i daudathogn', Asgeir and producer Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson, (aka Kitti) talked about the possibility of recording an English language version of the album. American musician, John Grant (Bella Union/Rough Trade Shops Album Of The Year), helped to translate and record the tracks for the English version of the album. Grant strove to preserve the original meanings of the songs, as in Iceland the strange and evocative poetry of the album's lyrics has attracted almost as much attention as the music itself, partly because they are largely written by Asgeir's 73-year-old father and Iceland's most revered poet; who has written poetry since he himself was a small child. (insert apple tree here). Although there is little knowledge of Asgeir here in Australia his popularity is set to explode, as it has been doing in the UK and across the rest of Europe. Gorgeous, rich and haunting, the airy and vibrant songs on 'In The Silence' deftly combine electronic and organic elements with gossamer R'n'B production touches, flowing along with Asgeir's unmistakable, melancholic voice
