Sony Classical is delighted to announce the album 'If You Could Read My Mind' by exceptional young American organist, Cameron Carpenter. Determined to turn classical norms upside down and inside out, this virtuosic, audacious, quixotic musician presents here a hand-picked selection of classical and popular repertoire, all performed with his trademark flair, verve and panache. Carpenter debuts here his dream instrument: a touring organ built to his very own specifications in collaboration with American digital organ pioneers, Marshall and Ogletree. Like Carpenter himself, it also represents a seismic shift in the organ world! This custom-built instrument dispenses with traditional pipes and instead uses digitalised sounds from instruments from across the globe, thus allowing Carpenter's artistry to expand in even more compelling directions. It is indeed a radical first for any organist to choose a digital organ over a traditional pipe organ both for live performance and recording. The album includes works by Bach (Cello Suite No. 1 Prelude), Bernstein (Candide Overture), Dupré ('Variations sur un Noël'), Piazzolla ('Oblivion'), Rachmaninov ('Vocalise') and Scriabin (Piano Sonata No. 4) sitting alongside a cycle of paraphrases on songs by Burt Bacharach ('Alfie'), Leonard Cohen ('Sisters of Mercy'), and Gordon Lightfoot ('If You Could Read My Mind'). The album will also include the world premiere recording of Carpenter's own eagerly-anticipated composition for organ: 'Music for an Imaginary Film' (2013).
