Throw, and Flood Of Red in general, defies being categorized as genre-specific music, a fact that the band is proud of, and rightly so. Each track on Throw has its own identity, sometimes to the point they could be on different albums entirely. Take the heavy build and metal crush of the title track's outro as an example, which stacks up neatly against the Alice In Chains-esque 'Part Truth / Part Fiction', to the Pink Floyd-flavoured ballad 'Hiding Out', to the dark folk of 'Ye Die Ye Die'. "We don't know how to classify our music because we just write what we like to play," says drummer Graham Griffith. "We often tell people Flood Of Red plays atmospheric rock. I guess that encompasses it all because we get very heavy at times but we're also quite melodic in places. There are six people in Flood Of Red, we have very diverse musical tastes, and we're all fully involved in the writing process. We take influences from Black Sabbath to Fleetwood Mac and everything in between. Playing with dynamics in music is one of our favourite things to do, building beautiful melodic sections and heavy, powerful riffs. We love doing that, and it shows the flow of the music we enjoy listening to and playing."
