Blue Suede Shoes, A Rockabilly Session

Description

Written in October 1955 and released in January 1956, Blue Suede Shoes was an instant classic and earned a place in the history books when it became the first million-seller to crossover from the Country chart to the Pop and R&B listings. Swiftly covered by Elvis Presley and later The Beatles, the song remains a Rock’n’Roll anthem. Fitting then that Carl Perkins, the man who wrote and first performed ‘Blue Suede Shoes’, should be accorded a television special to celebrate its ICONIC STATUS.

Filmed at London’s Limehouse Studios in front of a live audience in 1985, Blue Suede Shoes - A Rockabilly Session featured the great man himself alongside luminaries Dave Edmunds, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and Rosanne Cash performing a selection of the songs Carl first introduced to the world back in the 1950s. Buoyed by the acclaim which followed the broadcast, much to his bemusement Carl Perkins found himself rebranded a living legend
