Seeking New Gods

‘Seeking New Gods’ is the brand new studio album from Gruff Rhys. The album marks a step back into full band territory and has all the hallmarks of a classic Gruff Record. ‘Seeking New Gods’ climbs lyrically and musically on to totally new terrain, because for his seventh solo record Gruff Rhys has created his own mountain.
“The songs are not dissimilar to what I usually write, but as the album goes along they get stretched out and start to unravel through longer jams.” Rhys states. “The album is about people and the civilisations, and the spaces people inhabit over periods of time. How people come and go but the geology sticks around and changes more slowly. I think it’s about memory and time,” he suggests of Seeking New Gods’ meaning. “It’s still a biography of a mountain, but now it’s a Mount Paketu of the mind. You won’t learn much about the real mountain from listening to this record but you will picture something, hopefully.”
So, why make a mountain in song? Because it wasn’t there... and now something beautiful sits on the horizon, inspiring our imaginations.
