This new album of Southern Rhythm n Blues and jazz standards, Toussaint'sfirst proper solo release in some 10 years, is produced by the great Joe Henry, who delivers his trademark warmth and languid flow to the session. A castof heavy hitters - including clarinetist Don Byron, trumpeter NicholasPayton, guitarist Marc Ribot, pianist Brad Mehldau and sax manJoshua Redman - support the pianist on a run through standards rangingfrom Duke Ellington and Django Reinhardt to Louis Armstrong, BillyStrayhorn and Thelonious Monk, whose 1963 classic provides the albumits title. This specatular return to Toussaint's roots was suggested by JoeHenry - who had produced Toussaint's 2006 album with Elvis Costello.Toussaint, an inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is renownedfor his work as writer, arranger & producer for hundreds of Southern Soul& RnB recordings from the 60s & 70s.
