State Of Origin: 2014 Series NSW
Not yet reviewed.
The long wait is over. With the sound of a full-time siren, eight years of heartbreak were washed away in an instant by a blue tidal wave of emotion, as New South Wales celebrated an epic victory in the 2014 Holden State of Origin series and once again claimed back the coveted Origin shield.
It began with a memorable Game 1 victory at Suncorp Stadium, where the Blues had not won a series opener since 2003 and the weight of history was against them. But Jarryd Hayne rose to the occasion: the mercurial fullback was unstoppable at both ends of the field, setting up a try and scoring another as Laurie Daley’s men dug deep at the death to beat back wave after wave of Maroon raids. In Game 2, the scene was set for a monumental encounter in Sydney as a record crowd of 83,421 fans packed ANZ Stadium as New South Wales looked to wrestle back the Origin ascendancy in front of a sea of parochial Blues supporters. Skipper and Man-of-the-Match Paul Gallen was immense in a tight and desperate defensive struggle that remained on a knife-edge until the 71st minute when halfback Trent Hodkinson darted through a gap in the Maroons line to capitalise on a glut of NSW possession. Nine minutes later, celebrations began in earnest as the siren signalled the end of Queensland’s reign. The Blues camp was ecstatic, and together players and fans soaked up a famous Origin victory that evoked memories of Steve Mortimer’s heroes of 1985.
Sit back and enjoy the 2014 Holden State of Origin series with all three games presented in full.
