Dave Brubeck left a legacy of material that outlives the time and place it first came into being.

He was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996 alongside Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, but this and many honorary degrees were eclipsed when an asteroid, 5079 Brubeck, was named after him –entirely appropriate for a man The Los Angeles times notedwas ‘one of jazz’s first pop stars.’
