Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, the debut album by Outkast, was released in 1994.

The album, featuring live instrumentation and elements of funk and soul, addressed coming-of-age themes and urban life in the South. A critical and commercial success, the album helped distinguish Southern hip hop as a credible scene amid East Coast and West Coast dominance at the time.
