'MTV Unplugged in New York' was the November 18, 1993 live album by grunge band Nirvana. Taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City, for the television series MTV Unplugged, the album features an acoustic performance over 14 tracks.

The setlist for the show was composed of mainly lesser-known material and cover versions of songs by The Vaselines, David Bowie, Meat Puppets (during which they were joined by two members of the group onstage), and Lead Belly.

'MTV Unplugged in New York' was the first Nirvana album released following the death of Kurt Cobain. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and has become the group's most successful posthumous release, having been certified 5x platinum in the United States by 1997.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A classic album which belongs on vinyl A teen in the early nineties, Nirvana Unplugged guided me through the turmoil and angst associated with the transition from child to adult. Many content hours I spent positively identifying with the gravely voice of Kurt Cobain, enveloped in the harsh beauty of his voice, somewhat indulgently feeling that my own troubles were shared by Kurt's... and that helped alleviate my feelings of pain and confusion with the world. Despite the fact that vinyl was well-and-truly superseded by CDs at the time of this album's release, I think it's fitting that the album is now available on LP. As an adult my experience listening to this album is much different to that of when I was a teen. The songs fit like a pair of well-worn jeans that I have not put on for years. I wear them well, with fondness. The lens of the life I live now shape my interpretation of the music, and I find a different level of pain and beauty in the sounds. I'm very pleased with the quality of the music on vinyl, and I appreciate the sleeve artwork and design - a tactile classic remnant of a bygone era in music, where the cover is an equal partner to the music in owning an artefact for listening pleasure.
