HOW DOES THE 3D TECHNOLOGY WORK?
When you're watching a 3D program/movie the TV is producing 2 separate, alternating images on the screen - one for each eye (AKA Stereoscopic Image). This is why you'll see a fuzzy picture if you're not wearing the 3D glasses. 3D glasses work by lightening/darkening each lens in sync with the TVs refresh rate which generates depth to the picture so that you see everything in 3D.WHAT DO I NEED?
3D Capable TV + 3D Glasses + 3D Media Player + 3D ContentHOW DO THE 3D GLASSES WORK?
3D TVs will come with a set of battery-charged, electronic 3D glasses. Additional pairs of glasses are available for purchase so the whole family cansit and watch in 3D. These are not the cardboard glasses with red & green cellophane of the 50s... We're talking about lightweight, comfortable
glasses that switch on/off with a single button.
Each TV brand will produce their own 3D glasses and will not be interchangeable; however it is rumoured that some companies will produce
universal 3D glasses that will work with any 3D tv (similar to a universal remote).
WHAT'S A 3D MEDIA PLAYER?
A 3D enabled Blu-Ray player is an example of a 3D media player and soon enough there will be 3D video game consoles. A free firmware upgradefor PlayStation 3 has already been released (ver 3.30) enabling support of 3D stereoscopic games. Sony also announced another free firmware
upgrade will be released soon to support the playback of 3D blu-ray movies. This means anyone with a PS3 console can install free upgrades to turn
it into a complete 3D games console AND 3D blu-ray player!
3D MEDIA CONTENT
3D Blu-Ray movies are starting to emerge and it wont take long for 3D video games to knock your socks off. Sony have announced patches will be released for some current PS3 games to become 3D. 3DTVs can detect the 3D signal throughthe HDMI cable. This means when you turn on a 3D blu-ray movie, the TV will automatically switch to 3D mode when you select the blu-ray input on
the TV. Then all you'll need to do is put on your 3D glasses.
3D enabled Blu-Ray players will require an HDMI 1.4a/HDMI 1.4 High Speed cable or a specifically labelled '3D Capable' HDMI lead to connect to 3D TVs. Belkin HDMI 1.3 cables will work with 3D enabled blu-ray players.
CAN I WATCH NORMAL TV PROGRAMS? OR DOES THE TV ONLY WORK IN 3D?
Absolutely! No glasses are required and you still get an amazing picture on-screen. With a 3DTV you simply have a choice to watch normally OR in
3D. Like any other new Full HD Plasma/LCD/LED LCD, 3D televisions have built-in HD tuners to display all the free-to-air/freeview channels.
And you can still connect your Foxtel, PS3, X360, Wii or Video Camera to the TV and use them the same as you do now.
*The important thing to remember is that 3D TVs have all the same functions & the latest features as current Plasma/LCD/LED LCDs with the added bonus of 3D technology.
There is a function to up-convert normal TV programs and movies from 2D - 3D. With the press of one button on the remote the 3D TV will add depth
to the image on screen to create a stereoscopic image with a natural feel. Then all you have to do is put on your 3D glasses and whatever you're
watching is instantly transformed into a 3D experience.
CAN I WATCH 3D TV WITHOUT THE GLASSES?
No, the picture will be fuzzy and you won't get the optimum benefit from your viewing experience. But with the press of a button on the remote you can watch normal TV/DVD/Blu-Rays the same as you do now without glasses.
