Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cosmic Observance with a dash of post-rock Sax Like all great poets - Bowie was a visionary, a seer. This collection of songs observes the cosmic drama of our galaxy as it continues its inexorable slide into the black hole at its centre - whilst rooting this in images of life on earth. The bluebird flying, free of this celestial knowledge. etc. I could go on. It's taken me months to front up to this album - I've been travelling through the stages of grief, consoling myself with Ashes to Ashes, dancing to Modern Love and cranking out Heroes on the stereo on 11. But here is the reckoning. A true farewell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bowie's totally unexpected swansong It's funny how things work out sometimes. Whether David Bowie knew, or not, that this would be his last album, it seems like a fitting statement to leave us with. It sort of sums up everything he did and achieved in his remarkable career. You can hear traces, hints, references to all the stages that he went through, from young, budding songwriter/popstar, through Ziggy, the Thin White Duke and beyond. An album that I'm still getting to know, and am sure I will love it and treasure it. Bowie knew he was dying when he recorded this album, but there's nothing maudlin, or mawkish, or sentimental about it. There's darkness, and some deep introspection, but there's a lot of beauty as well. Alongside The Next Day, it stands with his best work, and for any Bowie appreciator, it is an essential addition to the 'canon'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lazarus is his goodbye This album takes on a new perspective as it was recorded not long before his sad passing. Lazarus is a hauntingly beautiful song, I couldn't bring myself to listen to it for 2 weeks after his passing as it was just too sad, but now it makes me happy as its like he is telling us he is ok and is now free like a blue bird. Great album, deep lyrics, lots of instruments. Takes a couple of listens until it hits you just how amazing he was. RIP David Bowie

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BLACKSTAR :- David Bowie A truly amazing album, quite dark, but Bowie managed, once again, to reinvent himself albeit as a foresight of his impending death. The tracks "Blackstar" and "Lazarus" in my opinion are the mainstays of this work and are in fact Bowie's testament to the music world. His death will leave a vacuum that will never be filled, but this album will remain an inheritance to everyone to remind them that David Bowie was once among us.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Farewell David Bowie as usual is brilliant - a great final album from a musical icon. The songs are poignant when looked at in relation to his passing and what a beautiful way to say goodbye to the fans. Both sad and brilliant - what a talent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RIP Bowie Fantastic as usual from David Bowie. Tinged with the sadness of his death two days after the release. Still it is typical of his work, still producing his creative genius even though none of us knew his health and pain.
