At the foot of the mountains, a Premiership prophecy has been fulfilled.
This young, exciting squad of Panthers had finally found their killer
instinct. After coming so close to glory in the previous season, 2021 was
finally Penrith’s year. After an enthralling Finals campaign, in which Ivan
Cleary’s men took the hard road to the Grand Final, it was fitting that one
of the most consistent and entertaining teams in the competition over
the past two seasons would finally raise the coveted Provan Summons
Trophy on an historic night at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

After falling agonisingly at the last hurdle in 2020, the Panthers side of
2021 suddenly had a point to prove. Superstar Nathan Cleary again shifted
to another level in a halves combination with Jarome Luai, directing the
Panther’s dangerous attack. Outside of them, an electrifying backline of
Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton, Charlie Staines and Brian To’o complemented
the safe hands of custodian Dylan Edwards at fullback, while the forward
pack provided muscle in the form of James Fisher-Harris, Kurt Capewell,
Viliame Kikau, Liam Martin, Moses Leota and Isaah Yeo.

After the disappointment of 2020, the Panthers went into the 2021
Finals Series with the weight of expectation on their shoulders.
A narrow Qualifying Final defeat at the hands of eventual Grand Final
opponents the Rabbitohs in Townsville made their road to the decider
even more challenging, but the Panthers rebounded with a hard-fought
Semi-Final win over the Parramatta Eels in Mackay. They followed that
up with a thrilling Preliminary Final win against reigning Premiers
Melbourne Storm, exacting revenge for their 2020 Grand Final loss,
and booking their place in the Grand Final. And on a famous evening
at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, this mighty Penrith side rose to the
occasion, defeating the South Sydney Rabbitohs to secure the NRL Telstra
Premiership Trophy, and etching their names into Panthers folklore with
the club’s first Premiership in 18 years.
